Max's First Tennis Injury

Well, we thought he would be a little older before this happened, but we were wrong. Max plays too hard, always giving 110%. His form was admirable, his ball-chasing technique, exquisite. But today, during his FIRST tennis outing, this little guy dislocated his elbow. Too bad we had no idea what was wrong. We could tell he was hurt (after a swing with help from Daddy Blake) but didn't know how severe. He was holding his arm to his body, but could still move his hand and fingers around. And when we were ready to go home, he cried that he wanted to go down the slides, but still would stop and fuss that his arm hurt in the middle of playing at the park. So was it broken or would the pain just go away with some ice. Lucky for us, our upstairs neighbor just happens to be a pediatrician. I asked her if she could come check it out and let us know if we should go to the emergency room or not. While examining his arm, all of the sudden she yanked it up and POP! All better. It was a miracle. Max immediately stopped crying and wanted to go play. Hopefully the rest of his injuries are this easy to fix. And hopefully we always have someone close enough to fix them. And hopefully the cost of repair will always be comparable--one bouquet of flowers and a Max-made sticker card. Thank you Kathryn!

i got the full description of this injury event from auntie ashley, who told me a blogpost would definitely be coming on the incident. way to go, max! how cool is that to have a tennis injury at age 2 and bounce back like a pro almost immediately?! watch out, roger!

wow, tennis elbow at age 2. and after only one lesson. this brings back memories of me having an arm that hurt so bad after jumping on the trampoline, but nanny told me just to lay on the couch so it would feel better. yep, it was broken. glad max's wasn't serious. and i'm glad nanny finally took me to the ER.

You know Max, the Olympics are EVERY 4 years, so pace yourself! You don't have to go out and make the Games on your first try. Injuries sideline the best players...

Glad you will make a full recovery.... GO for the GOLD Tennis Man!

Thank Heaven for miracles! Thanks Kathryn for helping out our little angel! He is an angel, right?! Well, both Grandma's think so.... I'm sure! Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be back on the court in no time at all. Next time, look out Blake! He will give you a run for your money! After all, Max is an extraordinary Athlete.

by the way, rachel's arm injury was well well worth it since it was the now-famous keri russell who jumped on top of rachel's arm and broke it on the trampoline.

This happened to Austin at least 3 times when he was little. Unfortunately, his story wasn't as exhilarating. His elbow pops were usually the result of his older sisters swinging him around while holding his arms.

Max is such a boy: more concerned about playing on slides than getting an injury fixed...pretty cute at age 2.
